This year I was the recipient of a FLAS (Foreign Language Area Studies) Fellowship to study Urdu in Lucknow, India. I leave the US on June 8 and return on September 21. I am really excited since my current Urdu professor, Jameel-saahab, has lived in Lucknow. He and his wife have given me many tips for studying and traveling there.
Mostly, I'm not looking forward to the heat. But, I didn't get to choose the timing of the fellowship. Right now Lucknow, which is in the state of Uttar Pradesh, is hovering right around 100 degrees and getting lots of rain and thunderstorms. Yay monsoon season! I was in Nepal for monsoon season, too. I really need to arrange my trips to South Asia for more comfortable times of year :/
Please follow me here to keep up with my wanderings around India, my studies there, and eventually photos. I know I need to post the video from Nepal last year, but I simply have not had time! So you may be seeing a Nepal and India video posted in close succession. Stay tuned for the Summer of Urdu and Sweat!
